This project involved a major structural reconfiguration of an existing historic building in Providence’s Jewelry District for conversion into the new home of Brown University’s Warren Alpert School of Medicine. The existing structure was a cast-in-place concrete building, 1940s vintage, with closely spaced round concrete columns. In order to transform the building into a modern academic facility, numerous columns and floor areas were removed, maintaining the existing historic building envelope, to make way for large new auditoriums, spacious anatomy labs and medical student classrooms. |
